Loud Vibrating Noise, Horrible Customer Service
By FreeMinded
Purchased a brand new unit, looked good on the outside, and I liked Sharp's "Library Quiet" technology, however, the unit started making a loud vibrating noise once I began to use it, which woke me up at night several times. Upon figuring out what was causing the issue, it turned out to be a metal peg underneath the unit which wasn't secured during manufacturing and cannot be secured without taking the unit apart.Had to call Sharp Support 5 (Five) Times because every support agent provided phone #'s of in home repair service, but the service centers either didn't service A/C's, didn't come to my location (as covered under my in-home service warranty), or the # was simply disconnected. The customer support is a mess, and the A/C has a simple defect that completely renders their "Library Quiet" claim useless and false. The remote control has too many buttons and can be confusing, and if you loose the remote, you can't control the unit beyond turning it on and off. Also, Dehumidify function fills up the water tank within hours and it needs to be emptied manually. The A/C function seems to self-evaporate the water much better. The plastic casing on the unit itself could have been mended on tighter, as the unit's compressor causes it to vibrate and creates additional noises as the plastic casing vibrates every now and then, but nowhere near as loud as the metal peg defect.Cools my 700sq ft apartment pretty well within hours. If it wasn't for the defect and 5 calls to customer service, I would rate this unit 3 stars. I see many improvements that could have been made on this to make it a higher quality, like a more solid body, digital temp display so you know what the temp is in the room, when the A/C Compressor turns on and off could have been made smoother and quieter, considering it's an in-home unit, not pleasant to hear how it thumps on and off, especially when you're in middle of relaxing and "letting-go" of the stresses of the day.Not very Sharp at all. Another overpriced and poorly quality controlled product from China.I would not recommend this unit.

So Quiet!
By Tim Busser
This is the second Sharp portable air conditioner that I have purchased in the last two years and I really like how quiet that they actually are. When the room temperature approaches the set temperature, the unit slows down even more making even less noise than normal due to slower fan speed. This unit has never waken me up from a sound sleep and it is easy to fall asleep when it is operating, keeping my bedroom cozy, cool and comfortable all night long. Some reviewers of these types of air conditioners say that they don't cool enough, but when I compare it with my whole house central air conditioning system, they perform an admirable job, everything considered. Even my central air conditioning system had a hard time cooling off a hot house unless I turned it on early in the morning or left it running all night long. Otherwise, it would run continuously most of the day without giving the compressor a rest. So, by comparison, this portable does the job just about as well and that is why I am so happy with its performance. I can save electricity by only using it in the room being occupied rather than cooling off the entire home with a much larger central air conditioning system. Since, my central air conditioning system has worn out, I chose to use the portable air conditioners instead this time around. Yes, they may not be able to cool off a really hot house very fast, but then neither could my central air conditioner.
