Cool as a cucumber!

The first unit we ordered came damaged, obviously during transit. The damage was too much to consider keeping the unit, as it would have affected the performance. There was a huge hole in the side of the cardboard box it came in and the unit itself was severely dented/damaged in several places. The fan also made a terrible scrubbing noise. After the inconvenience of having to return such a large, heavy item, we re-ordered this exact same unit. Not so much to our surprise, the second unit had slight damage and a minor dent in the side as well. The damage was only superficial though and not enough to harm the actual performance, so we kept the second unit. The installation instructions were not great, but my husband is a pretty good handyman and didn't even need them. He did use a 4x4 (outside the window) to help brace the underside, as the brackets are not quite enough on their own. Once installed, this unit has worked perfectly, so we are very satisfied with it overall. The only problems were caused from a delivery standpoint. If you order online, I would just recommend looking these units over very carefully upon arrival, as many of them are damaged during the delivery process.***UPDATE***We've had this unit for a couple of months now, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that our latest electric bill had dropped by around 30%. We are very, very pleased with the purchase of this unit. Hoping to see comparable savings next month as well. Our old unit was an energy hog. I don't know if most people have noticed or not, but these LG Electronics units seem to have excellent energy star ratings. We use ours on the energy saving mode and are getting great results thus far. Highly recommended if you want to cut costs and stay cool at the same time!!!

A warning on large window A/C's

The unit is well made and fairly quiet. One should be warned that it uses almost 15 amps so little is left over on a 20 amp circuit. Consider a unit of about 12000 BTU using 10 or so amps to avoid over stressing your circuit.

in the window and cooling

As other reviewers have mentioned the installation instruction are difficult to follow, the window brackets are interesting but wouldn't work for me, the unit had a slightly bent case when it arrived and one set of the front panel clips cracked off with the initial use. All said however, its up and in the window and quietly cooling the room so all and all I am pleased with this unit. Also it is quieter than the older one that died last week. It is also the cheapest 15000 BTU around by almost a $100 and Amazon got it here in 4 days with free shipping!
