Tripp Lite's SRCOOL12K is a next-generation air conditioner designed for supplemental area cooling, emergency cooling and off-hour cooling applications. The SRCOOL12K uses R410a refrigerant, which complies with EPA standards. The SRCOOL12K has a built-in evaporator that expels the condensed water through the exhaust duct, so there is no need for a drain tube, drain pan or water collection tank. The SRCOOL12K not only adjusts ambient room temperatures, but can also dehumidify and filter the air, providing better air quality with minimal noise and power consumption. Both a standard louvered vent (for general room cooling) and a directional ducted cooling vent (to direct cold air where most needed) are provided. A directional exhaust duct safely removes hot air from the room. A built-in timer enables the unit to be programmed for unattended start-up and shutdown. An included window/drop ceiling kit provides multiple installation options.

We purchased the Tripp-Lite Air cooler for our small firm (15 people) when we upgraded from 2 to 4 servers. They are located in a small closet with our phone switching and it was getting warm inside the closet even with an exhaust fan into the plenum. This is probalby more than we need, but it really works well, and I investigated just about every small cooler on the market, and this was the best cost and size I could find. Also it did not need a drain as the design gets rid of condensation using the heat generated by the unit, not the case with most others I reviewed. Installation of the hot air hose into the plenum was done by our contractor while doing some other minor work on our office, and the start up and operation was seconds after opening the box. Only comlaint is its size, about 2 computers high.The mfg. is a well known company and the set up was really easy. And the cost ($650 range) was way below the next level cooling unit. We orderd the unit through Amazon (who knew after all the special web sites I went to) and it was there in 3 days. Great vendor follow up also.

Pro's:This is one high output portable a/c unit. Has an easy to read thermostat, easy to program and has reusable filters. The accessories included were a nice touch, you can either use it to cool the server room down or use the included duct and deliver the cold air directly to the hotspots in your server room. Also the fact that there is no water collection tray is a breath of fresh air. It has a built in evaporator that removed the condensation and expels it with the hot air off the compressor.Con's:It can be a pain in the you know what to route the exhaust air out of the room, it comes with a plate for using in either a suspended ceiling or window but my server room has none of these so we had to get a little creative with the exhaust routing.Other Thoughts:If your server room is have issues staying cool and you dont want to spend your budget on new hvac equipment get this, before in the summers the server room would stay around 76F now with this installed not only does it stay at 72f but the main unit doesnt have to work as hard and that will save your company a few bucks on the electric bill.

We have an approximately 104 sq foot server "closet," with a drop ceiling and a slat-vented door. The landlord was not helpful offering us any solutions to cooling off the room, (which with 4 servers, our telephone system, hub for 35 users, and various APC power supplies and monitor was starting to peak out at 90 degrees F)so we called a professional HVAC company. They were more than happy to recommend a $5-10K+ addition to our existing office AC system and put it on the roof.I went on the hunt and found this little gem, ordered it, and within 2 hours of delivery (after the first one came busted up by the carrier) we were whistling at how awesome little "R2" worked. The kit for modifying a drop ceiling tile is flimsy at best, but with some duct-tape and some x-acto knife action, we were in business.I would say that if you are cooling air in southern latitudes that is excessively humid, i.e.-has not already been dehumidified or conditioned by a building AC system, you might run into issues with the moisture removal through exhaust hose method. I can't say that as a fact though, just a hunch. We did have some indication of quality issues with the unit; when I started it up a small piece of vent broke off and came flying out of the exhaust port, and the plastic seems very thin in general. I doubt it will be an issue as long as it remains unperturbed in the corner. I can't speak to durability of the compressor or control panel. We've only had it for a couple of days. I will report back.Overall this is a great unit for businesses with few options and not much money to keep the electronics cool and dry. I couldn't be happier so far.Go for it!
