I have a very large house and cannot use window units. I do have central air but live in a humid climate (and I do like to have my windows open as much as possible). So to assist the efficiency of my central ac or to use when my central ac is not really needed , I have purchased portable ac untis.Three years ago I purchased the 10k btu whirlpool portable ac (which is very quiet and very cold air but the venting hose construction is terrible). I decided to purchase an additional unit this year. To test, I purchased the LG 7000 and 9000 portable acs to evaluate which would work best in my home and to see if I could use less btus & also save a few $$.Don't bother with the 7000 btu unit -- it only produces warm air. This unit is being returned. The LG 9000 btu does produce very cold air, and works well in the room size designated. However, it is LOUD! Compared to the whirlpool , the venting hosing construction is much better -- but the noise really is significant (much louder than the whirlpool unit).I hope this opinion helps others to decide , as I have become a true believer in customer ratings and no longer purchase anything without checking for your input!!

I purchased one of these units, after 3 days of research on different units, the pro's and con's of ordering online or purchasing a unit from my local Home Depot. I decided to get it from my local Home Depot. This unit does exactly what it says in the booklet and the box, the reviews were about 50/50, but I concentrate on the one and two star reviews first to see what the real problem is, most of the time majority rules. The main problem people found problems with was the exhaust hose, saying how cheaply made it was. Wrong, I don't know what mislead, uninformed people want, if done correctly the hosing unit works great, straight or with one or two curves in it. Take your time and handle it with care, its not something to just throw in and it works, you have to form the hose in a way so that tension isn't pulling it out the window, just take time and care. The unit name is portable ac unit, but it is not actually that portable, and alot of people gave bad reviews for that, its portable because you can move from room to room, if you take your time to re install it into another window and do it correctly, which can take about 30 or more minutes to do. My conclusion is this, if you take your time to do research and know exactly what you want, then you will not be dissapointed. Majority of the bad reviewers are plain and outright imbeciles, that don't take time and quick to comment on something that works but does'nt even think that they may of did something wrong. This unit does exactly what I thought it would do for what I needed it for. I took my time in installing the hose and it works better than I taught it would, I even move the unit around and take my time in re installing the hose when I retire to my bedroom, fits and stays in place perfectly. I do the extra work and take my time to get the results I want, and the equipment does and works great. I spent 299.00 on this unit, so I did'nt expect it to be like my central unit, but I wanted to cut down on my electric bill this summer and only need to cool the room I'm in at the time and not the whole house. I've had the unit going on 2 weeks, Home depot gives you 90 days to return if something goes wrong. I will keep you updated, because reviews help me out so much, it's incredible, so I try to write as many review on everything I purchase, to help out others in this time of a horrible economy. If we purchase products that work, like they say they do, well that company does good, if we give the product back that don' perform to a reasonable standard then that company fails, So no bail outs for them and as consumers we need to stay united in our purchasing power. Thanks everyone that write reviews, good or bad, because they both help, even if I or someone think you review is not up to standards, I am positive it has help someone, some way. Thank you.

I have no windows that can use a window A/C unit. I bought 2 of these when my central A/C was broken. This unit cools a 400 sq foot room as advertised. It is easy to install. It is, however, very loud on the high fan setting. One of the units kept turning off, this happens when the water tray at the bottom fills up. The only difference in the installation was that the vent hose was fully extended on the one that was turning off. I moved it closer to the window and collapsed the length of the hose and it stopped condensing as much water and stopped shutting off. When you do need to empty the water it is quite awkward, you have to unscrew the cap at the bottom and then remove the rubber plug (the plug part isn't described in the manual, at first I wondered why no water was coming out after I unscrewed the cap). The plug is close to the ground so if you can't move the whole unit outdoors to empty on the ground you need to find a large low pan to collect the water. Tipping the unit will cause water to spill over the vents in the back when it is full.
