Makes it cooler...not colder
By Cell Out
Recently we've had a heat wave here on the east coast. Unfortunately for me my fire escape is right outside my living room window and i'm not allowed to block it with anything...no plants, AC, or window fans. I figured the window kit of a portable unit wouldn't be noticable (so far i'm right) I'm on the top floor of my building so i've been told portable units will not work well with the sun beating on the roof all day.I took a chance because sitting on a leather sofa in 99 degrees isn't fun.I'm glad to say that the delivery was 5 days via FedEx. The unit has a long (6') hose. It also takes water thru a very small opening located on the bottom of the unit. You don't need to fill it up with the cup that came with the unit but it does help drop the temperature and keeps the noise down. Speaking of noise, the unit isn't loud but it surely isn't quiet. For my home theater I would have the volume up to 20. The max it can go up to is 50. Now with the unit on I have to put it more towards 35/40 when gaming or watching movies. You don't have to use the hose but remember the humidity that needs to go out will just spread around the apartment if you don't use the hose. Also, it helps with the noise reduction. The unit has wheels and it's 75lbs but it's not diffucult to push around. I've notice the temperature doesn't drop to 64 like a regular window AC in the apartment when it's 90 outside. It feels more like it's 75 in the apartment. My living room is big so there are spots where it's warmer than the rest of the room but it does feel pretty good when you find that sweet spot. I have my girlfriend who hates the cold and yet she doesn't mind having this on all day.=====================UPDATE 7-9-12Since owning it we notice it's making another sound that it didn't make when we first purchased it. It's nothing bad just an odd "swishing" sound like the water we put in it is being pushed around. It often will need water but it will not indicate it some times. I'll know when it needs water because the air doesn't feel as cool and it's a lot louder. So I'll put in 2 cups of water to what seems like every 2-3 hours.=====================UPDATE 7-20-12The 6 foot hose that is used for the exhaust already has begun to rip apart. There are patches of holes and rips at random areas. I'm hoping the 1 year warranty on this will help replace the hose. I have lowered my rating from 4 stars to 2 stars because it's not even a month and the hose is falling apart. Will update when I speak to them.

Easy Setup - Works Well for a 250sq ft Bedroom
By Epiphany
Experiencing a heat wave averaging 95-103 for 2 weeks so far and only relief (under 85) has been in the late evening... being on the top floor, SW corner unit with largest windows and balcony facing west, (blazing afternoon sun)... interior was staying at 83-88... ugh.The 14,000 BTU unit I ordered from Costco.com was delayed by UPS... cancelled it due to that alone out of spite... lucky I was able to get 2 of these from CompUSA locally (tigerdirect.com)... every other (Home Depot, Menards, Lowes, Costco, etc) place was sold out of portable AC units. It is smaller, and sized well for the bedroom and office... works well for limited spaces, and only took 10 minutes to setup. Surprised that it fit my tall sliding glass window wells perfectly.I am generally a researcher and brand 'snob' so this was a risk for me... and worked out well. Reviews seem to indicate that some of the quality checks might not be there, but it looks like the product works well if its not a lemon... so I will update if the second one is one of those...

We bought a new house and my son sleeps in the upstairs, and it is hot up there. So i bought this air conditioner for his bedroom and gaming room areas. My son and his friends were very happy when they seen there was an air conditioner upstairs, and they were much happier with the ac performance. They are now spending alot of time in the gaming room and enjoying it.I am so pleased with this air conditioner, that i am here now buying another one for the main level of the house.
