Fair Weather Air Conditioner
By W. Fitch
Pros:- Worked out of the box- Very quiet- Inexpensive- Outside air intake (sort of)- Broken window adapter replaced under warranty at no cost and little effortCons: This item is poorly designed. The manual states that the outside air intake must be detached when the outside temperature exceeds 95 degrees F. to prevent the compressor from overheating (this isn't easily done). Also, the unit mixes room air with the air sucked in from outside. Naturally, this largely defeats the advantage of a dual hose system. Also, the hoses are mounted right behind the cooling coils, which probably disrupts air flow through them. Finally, the parts themselves seem sort of flimsy (particularly the tabs that lock the air hoses to AC).Other Thoughts: I'm a little disappointed that the thermostat only goes down to 64 degrees. It's worth being aware that the fan seems to run constantly even when the compressor isn't on, and there seems to be a noticeably loud water pump (a guess) that frequently cycles on and off when the humidity is high. Also, this unit comes with casters. You could unscrew them, but there are bolts sticking out past the bottom of the unit. For the price, I'm satisfied with the air conditioner, but you can probably find better at a higher price point.
